Our Existence

ExistenceThis morning in meditation I heard the words, “you know why you are here.”   Sometimes we are here in our earthly bodies and we enjoy our experience.  At other times, we might feel like we are going through the motions of life without direction or aim.  Yet, if we stop and think about it all, we know why we are here.   Somewhere in our core, our heart is hearing a call from God to fulfill our purpose.  Each and every one of us have a job to complete while we are here but many of us get distracted by life and forget.  The chaos around us can pull us off our path until something happens to help us “remember” who we are and what we are about.

Distracting us from our path is easy.  We have so many gadgets and so many material goals in life, we can often forget what is really important.   If Satan exists, He is there tempting us with “stuff” every moment of our lives.  Once we get those “things”, we often look for the bigger and better version.  Though we think we are pursing happiness, being distracted takes us further away from our inner peace.  How distracted are we? Where do we place our priorities?  Do we think of God and what he wants us to do?  Do we think of how we can help other people?  Do we spend time praying and asking God to bring peace to our world?  Do we give back? Is it in our consciousness every day that we have things we can do to help, even if they are small gestures?

Truthfully, we are all here to help and it is apparent that  the world really needs it.  As a whole, we don’t take very good care of the planet or of each other.   There is no shortage of things for us to do to help.   We are needed in abundance.  When people ask, “What is my purpose?”  The answer is to help whatever way we can.  It may be a vocation or it just may be our way of life.   There isn’t always a defined answer but it can become more defined the more we work toward giving back to God.  The more we do, the more the opportunities for helping will open up to us.

Remember, our existence here is about us.  It is not about “you”.  The more we think of how we can help others, the more we become content with being whoever we are.  We begin to develop a new sense of self.  We get the benefits of being strongly connected to God and of living a God centered life.   We have focus and we know each day is an opportunity to fulfill what we are supposed to do while we are here.  We know this already but sometimes we forget.  Now is a good time to remember.

Each day ask God to plan your day for you.  Ask Him where you can be of help.  Then be conscious of the opportunities in front of you.   Are you being asked to listen to someone who needs support?  Are you being ask to pray for God’s angels to help others?  Are you being asked to use your skills to do something greater?  Ask and the answers will come.  As with most things, it is important to stay in today and do what is put in front of you.  The rest will develop naturally as it is intended to be.© May 4, 2014, Nancy Hickman, M.Ed., LLC
